The Parenting Compass starts with our online assessment which measures how many of the positive assets your child currently has. The results tell you which areas your child is strong and weak in currently and what you can do to strengthen their weak areas and help other families in areas your family is strong in.
The assessment also measures if you and your child have a difference of opinion and what you can do to resolve that. Your personalized Family Action Plan provides the road map to building upon your child’s assets and helping them succeed. More assets in your child’s life also means less of a risk of risky behavior.

How the Parenting Compass Assessment Works:
| 1. |
An assessment - The Parenting Compass starts with our online assessment (think of it as a check-up) that helps you and your preteens/teenagers reflect on how you’re doing in nurturing the relationships, experiences and character traits (together called “assets”) that are proven to make a difference in the choices that young people make.
|
| 2. |
Assessment results - Learn in what areas your preteens/teenagers are thriving and where they may be at risk. You’ll get the results for each child and for your whole family.
|
| 3. |
Discussion guide - The assessment results will also reveal whether you and your child have a difference of opinion in a specific area. You may think your daughter is strong, say, in the area of boundaries and expectations. She may think otherwise. And that’s OK because we provide a discussion guide that helps you talk through these differences and draw closer as a result.
|
| 4. |
Family Action Plan - Once you take the assessment, get the results and talk about the differences, you get a corresponding Family Action Plan on how to build even more assets. You get activities to work on – not just advice – for your family and for each child.
|
| 5. |
Resources - Your Family Action Plan gives you next steps on what to do, but we also provide you with articles, books, videos, tips, applications and the ability to share with other parents online. Parenting is a long-term commitment, and we’re committed to help you at every step.
|
Why does any of this matter?
Simply put, the more assets in your child’s life, the less likely he or she is to engage in risky behavior. And the more likely he or she is to adopt positive activities.
