Parenting Compass is a program produced by Focus on the Family utilizing the research and expertise of Search Institute, creator of the 40 Developmental Assets. It provides a quantifiable way of approaching parenting issues by helping parents to build assets in their preteens/teens.
For thirty years, parents have relied on FOTF for biblically-based, psychologically-sound insights and advice on how to raise great kids. As parents face increasingly difficult situations in raising children and teens in our culture, FOTF has looked for the best tools and resources to assist parents. A few years ago, FOTF became aware of one of the most important advances in youth development, the 40 Developmental Assets. Recognizing the empirical research for the assets and also their compatibility with Scripture and biblically-sound parenting principles, FOTF and Search Institute began work on developing Parenting Compass to make the assets available to a wider range of parents.
The result is the assessment, Family Action Plan and resources you find here.
